Join the Historical Group RPS on a special visit to the birthplace of photography, Lacock Abbey, Henry Fox Talbot’s house, the inventor of the negative/positive photography process. There will be access to beautiful gardens and monastery gardens that must sparkle with spring flowers, the monastery itself is a famous lattice window, and Lacock’s historic village. The museum gallery will show a choice from the last three years the RPS international photography exhibition. 2025 marks the fifth anniversary of the Fox Talbot Museum.
National Property Curator Lacock and North Wiltshire Andy Cochrane will talk about the history of Abbey and Talbot, and National Trust plans for the future. After that, Denis Pellerin and Rebecca Sharpe, curators of the Brian May Archive of Stereoscopy (BMAS), will provide 3-D stereoscopic presentations on the history of stereoscopy, including highlights of collections, focusing on photography techniques and applications, and Lacock.
Today took place from 10.15 in the morning to 4 pm, Tuesday 4 March 2025. Tickets need to be ordered further through the Royal Photographic Society website, with prices starting at £ 9 for members of the RPS history group, £ 10 for RPS members, and £ 12 for non-members. Tickets for that day and complete schedules can be found here.

The event began at 10.15 in the morning with a meeting at a warehouse in High Street, right from the Fox Talbot Museum (SN15 2LG), where Gilly read the FRPS, the group chair, would give an introduction to that day.
