Unfortunately, this is not usually the case, so there is little opportunity to practice certain positions beyond theory. This is why it is often difficult to continue the game successfully, even if you have prepared the first 10-15 moves well.
Our new bot training feature helps solve this problem: you can now play any position from the Chessable field against bots on Chess.com.
It doesn’t matter whether you are against bots at your own level of play compete or want to see how legends like Magnus Carlsen or Levy Rozman react to your opening – our bot covers different playing styles and Elo ranges from 250 to 3200.
Like sparring partners, bots help you close the gap between memorization and practical application – without the pressure of real competition.
This is one of the most requested features and is available to everyone for free. All you need is a Chess.com account.
Here’s how it works:
- Choose any position from your class.
In study or review mode or even while browsing, just click on it robot icon 🤖 on the toolbar under the comments column for the position you want to train. You will then be redirected to Chess.com, where the bot game will immediately start right from this position.
Choose your bot
You can choose from a variety of bots with different playing styles and skill levels. Test your opening against Gotham Chess (2500) or similar celebrities Steve Aoki (1000) … the possibilities are almost endless.
Play the game from your preferred position
The game starts from the position you choose, and the bot moves according to the chosen skill level. You can also determine the amount of feedback you want: none at all for the most realistic players, or a brief evaluation after each of your moves.
Why practice against bots?
Although the idea sounds simple, it is one of the most effective tools to improve your game. Here are three reasons why you should use it:

Many of us learn most effectively when we can immediately apply what we’ve just learned. Instead of stopping at the end of the theoretical variant, you can jump straight into the game and test yourself on the real “battlefield”.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
